SLJWA, which was established by a Parliament Act in 1987, is the largest and the most prominent media organization in Sri Lanka.  Freelance journalists and those who are employed permanently or on contract basis at electronic and print media institutions in Sri Lanka constitute the membership of SLJWA which is over 1200.
